When I was looking for a place close to Gauteng where I can run trails and take my family along, a friend suggested Serendipity Eco Trails. It started as a farm, then they added camping and 4X4 trails. They then added bicycle trails and luckily then also opened the established hiking trails for running! That is when I realised I had to visit. Going out on a solo run, I was a bit terrified of getting lost, ending up on a bike route, or running in circles. The owners explained in detail where I should go and which roads to follow as some of the hiking routes are very technical. The official trails are 12km from Bush Baby Camp to Berg Camp, and 9km to return to base, marked with white painted rods in the ground, but I created my own route. I had a great time exploring this beautiful bushveld farm. Hills, rocks, jeep track, singletrack, and beautiful views all formed part of this great place. I also came across some rock pools and fetched the kids for a refreshing swim. Rugged, untouched trails, fun, and joy for the entire family: find all this and more when you visit Serendipity trail heaven next long weekend.
