Always in search of new trails, I came across this gem in the Free State. These trails are as beautiful, and untouched as they come. There are several route and distance options. We went for the longest distance of 24km. It starts at the lodge with beautiful singletrack. Mild climbs follow around 3km where the most beautiful views await. Then you make your way around the mountain range on jeep track with peaceful grasslands surrounding you. The route then takes you through a bushy dry river section with soft, sandy trails. A mild rock scramble follows, before ascending up and over beautiful sandstone rocky areas to more jeep track. When you reach the Marabeng Mountain top, a breathtaking sandstone gorge awaits before you start the descent through a technical bushy section on your way to the end. The trails are partially marked, which makes the experience of exploring more interesting. We had a guide running with us to make sure we didn’t get lost, and experience the best parts of the route. It was a privilege to experience these natural trails, and the hospitality of the hosts were outstanding! These routes offer a lovely variety run for any keen trail runner. The farm has easily accessible roads, so don’t hesitate to visit.
